The Last Light

There is a little beach tucked along the coastal walk between Trearddur and Rhoscolyn, not far from the old kissing gate covered in shells and feathers. It is the sort of place you might easily walk past, but in the evening, when the tide has retreated and the day is almost done, it becomes something quite magical. Tall seed heads stand dark against the fading sky, the rocks turn almost blue in the shadows, and just beyond them the last sliver of sunlight burns gold along the horizon. For a few minutes, everything seems completely still. Golau Olaf means “Last Light”, and this painting captures that fleeting moment between day and night, when there is just enough light left to find your way home.
