Mynydd Aur
Golden Mountain
We came home from Parys Mountain with more than muddy shoes. The kids had discovered the coppery dust beneath their feet and, with a little water and plenty of imagination, turned it into face paint. Rusty reds and earthy oranges were smeared across their cheeks, finished off with the cheekiest of grins. It was one of those wonderfully simple childhood moments. No toys, no screens, just a mountain, a bit of water and the irresistible temptation to get completely filthy. Parys Mountain has been famous for its copper for centuries. I’m fairly certain this wasn’t the use its miners had in mind.
