Between Sea and Mountain
There is a little bit of magic in this view. High above Rhoscolyn Bay, from the terrace of the White Eagle, Anglesey seems to fall away beneath you. Hedgerows tumble towards the water, tiny boats drift in the blue and, far beyond the bay, the mountains of Eryri rise like another world on the horizon. Some days they are sharp and dark. On others they almost disappear, softened by sea mist and light. And then there are evenings like this, when a ribbon of pink slips beneath the clouds and the mountains turn deep blue, as though someone has painted them there just for a moment. You can sit with a glass in your hand and watch the whole landscape quietly change in front of you. The light moves across the bay, the cottages begin to disappear into the hedgerows and, one by one, the colours soften until it becomes difficult to tell where the sea ends and the mountains begin. Perhaps that is why this view feels so special. It makes the world seem enormous and Anglesey feel wonderfully small all at once. And for a little while, sitting above Rhoscolyn with Eryri on the horizon, there is nowhere else you need to be.
